Ballyowen Golf Club

Came for a wedding and had a really awesome time celebrating my sister and brother-in-law!!! The views of the golf course were just absolutely beautiful. You could not ask for anything more. There were deer walking through, golfers golfing, and endless space of gorgeous fall foliage. The outdoor ceremony space allowed for the wedding party to be kept private behind bushes until it was time to walk down the aisle, which was nice. The cocktail hour space could be viewed as a little small if you have more than 120 guests, but it still works perfectly as there is outdoor space as well. The bar was large, and there were lots of food options. The reception room is very pretty and gives off a rustic woodsy vibe, which is exactly what you'd expect with the location. There is a large dance floor for lots of celebrating, which is where the party is at! I had the Filet Mignon for the main course dinner, which is what a large majority of our table requested, and it was good. It was a little bit over cooked, but had good taste, which is most important (lol). P.S. - The Maiter D was phenomenal!!!! SUPER responsive, helpful, exceptionally nice, and seriously willing to do WHATEVER he had to for my sister!!!!! Totally had all the right calming, fun vibes!

This venue checked all the boxes for us. An eclectic food selection for cocktail hour, great service, attention to detail, views and not a standard ballroom. We had about 100 people so it was the perfect size for us, not too big not too small. Lee our site coordinator was a pleasure to work with and she and Julie easily answered all of our questions in a timely manner. Mark, our maitre d, was phenomenal! Our guests raved about the food, service and atmosphere. I would highly recommend them!

Still waiting for that voucher you promised a month ago Mike. I guess the mail has been slow ... We did not write these reviews to get a free round, but to draw attention to the deplorable and inexcusable decline of a golf course that deserves better. Balleyowen is quickly solidifying its reputation as one of the most overrated and overpriced public tracks in the state. With a walk-up rate of $190 on a Friday afternoon, one should expect more than tee boxes that with bare spots and torn up grass, greens pockmarked by ball marks and scuffs, and sand traps with hard pan and "kitty litter," as my playing partner called it. The "ranger" told us to "keep pushing" the group in front of us (isn't that your job?) and it took 2:40 to play our front 9. The Crystal Springs owners have jacked up the greens fees but forgot that they need to reinvest in their courses. The rude and mediocre golfers they are drawing, who don't replace divots or fix ball marks, are a reflection of that. A few years back Ballyowen, and on a good day Wild Turkey, felt like special places to play. No more. Black Bear still offers a reasonable challenge and better conditions, but it's limited. The owners are selling their "rewards memberships," but the rewards of playing on these courses are less apparent these days. Update 2/13/24 The Ballyowen team issued a voucher. Let’s see how the course is playing in May.
